Very common resident.

Salix fragilis, S. purpurea, S. alba, S. babylonica, S. triandra or S. pentandra, with larva feeding in June and August to October. In a silvery mine in the lower epidermis of a leaf, moving to a new leaf via the bark of petioles and stem before leaving the mine to pupate in a fold in the leaf edge.

Note: The saligna/asiatica complex need breeding out to confirm but only females can be distinguished. The morphology of the mines is being looked at at present by Colin W. Plant. Colin is looking for breeding material to match mines to species.

Verification Grade Comment: Only females are seperable by dissection. Males are indistinguishable.

Determination by Genitalia Examination (gen. det.) Required

Mine: Moth needs to be reared and, in some cases, possibly dissected.
